Field Improvement Support
May 22, 2007, 11:19 am
Thank you for your continued support of our efforts to improve playing facilities for all of our children!
Coronado Little League fields and facilities are not adequate to meet the needs of our 600 players and familes. We support anything that can be done to provide funds to help build and maintain adequate facilties for our league (as well as benefit Copper Creek Elementary, Painted Sky Elementary, Coronado Middle School and Wilson Middle School). Additional fields could mean an end to late night games for our kids.

Some of the items we are seeking to improve for our kids are:
Coronado
- water lines for drinking and restrooms
- road access and additional parking
- Majors and AAA field need to be re-done (new sod etc.)...explain gopher holes, rocks, etc.
- Water Tank field needs re-done...this could be made into a nice field with a fence
- maybe add a backstop on SE grass area behind Juniors so younger teams could practice or play here
- safety netting like Thornydale
- possible new fields: if could use any of area to north of majors field
Wilson
- public restrooms
- better use all open grass/field area to create another 1-3 little league fields
- maybe lights on a few of these new fields and for sure on 7th and 8th grade fields

All-Star Tryouts and Commitment & Availability Notification
May 17, 2007, 12:32 am
Is your player interested in playing on the Coronado All Star team for his/her age?

2007 All-Star
Commitment/Availability

To be eligible, the player or the player's guardian must complete the on-line Commitment & Availability form no later than May 21, 2007 to be eligible for this year's All-Stars.  This does not guarantee that you will be invited to tryouts or make the team but does make you eligible.

To be chosen for the All-star team at any level is a privilege and it comes with commitments from parents and players.  Players must be available for tryouts on June 15th & 16th, and be available for practice starting on June 18th.  Practice may be up to six days per week and sometimes twice per day.  Local Allstar games will be during the month of July.  If the team wins district, then the state, they may be playing into August or September.  Players must be at tryouts, should not miss any practice (though an occasional absense may be granted by the team manager), and can not miss any games.

Play time is determined by the manager but in no case is it equal time for everyone.  The minimum play time is one inning and one at bat (and this is possible for some players on a team).

Costs are minimal while playing locally but if a team qualifies for state (as several have over the last few years) the costs can add up and the out of town stays can be extensive.
Coronado Little League is committed to having the best All-star teams possible and that takes dedication and cooperation from parents & players.  Please let us know if you are interested.  By completing this form on-line you agree to the terms of play and would like you child to be considered for selection.  Thank you.

Opening day is FAST arriving...

All game schedules are available online.  Click the baseball tab on the left and for AAA and Majors click the Game Schedules tab.  For AA, A and T-Ball - click their tab.  Schedules were last updated March 20th.

Hello parents, volunteers and fans of baseball!   Our 2007 season is about to begin and I want to personally welcome you all to Coronado Little League.   While I know many of you have been with the league for at least one year, I have had the pleasure of meeting several of you who have just moved into our area; a special welcome to you!

This year will prove to be an exciting and fun time for our children and for you all as well.

There will be a few things that are coming up and that you should be aware of:

Opening ceremonies will be on March 31st this year.   This will be an all day event with lots of fun for the kids.   The snack shack will be open and the younger kids will play exhibition games so you will be able to see them in their uniforms for the first time that day.   The older kids in AAA, Major American and Major National will be having actual games that day that you can enjoy.   More information about opening ceremonies will be posted very soon.

Parking at Coronado can sometimes be a challenge.   To help with this, certain sections of the parking lot just north of the school building will be reserved for managers, coaches and handicapped people only.   Please refrain from parking in these spaces in the lot if at all possible.   Parking in the fire lanes is prohibited, as is parking outside of the parking spaces.   Vehicles parking improperly may be towed away at the owner's expense.

Support of your children's team is very important.   Volunteering is key to the success of our league, and there are many volunteer opportunities available to you.   Team parents are always needed, as are umpires, snack shack volunteers and people to help keep up the fields.   Any and all help are welcome, but you need to make sure that you fill out a volunteer form and have it cleared by the league prior to accepting any volunteer position.

Behavior at the games and practices is equally important.   We are all passionate about our children, but we also need to temper this passion with restraint.   As you are aware, baseball is a game built on rare success.   If you think about it, a player who hits the ball and reaches base safely one out of three times can be considered a hall of fame player in professional baseball.   In Little League, our children are learning to play the game at all different levels of competition and skill; understanding and patience will be another key to success in our league.

Because of this, the league has adapted a zero tolerance policy for behavior.   If a manager or coach conducts himself/herself in an inappropriate fashion, the umpire may choose to eject that person.   If this happens more than once, the person may not be allowed to coach in this league again.   This will all be reviewed by the board on a case by case basis.

This rule likewise applies for parents .   The manager of each team is responsible for controlling the parents.   Each parent has signed a statement saying that they will behave appropriately.   If this does not happen, again the conduct will be reviewed by the board.   If the board finds that the parent has been warned and will not change his/her behavior, the parent may be sanctioned from attending any games for the year.   If a casual spectator who has not signed a waiver on behavior acts out, that person will be asked to leave the premises immediately.   If that person refuses, a board member will be contacted to take action.

These statements above may seem a little extreme to some of you.   However, this league is having a very difficult time fielding umpires because of abuse from managers, coaches, parents and casual spectators.   That type of behavior is inexcusable by adults, and is against Little League rules and philosophies.

In closing, our league is the biggest in Tucson and has been very successful each year in a number of ways.   The main reason for this is that there are so many great children and parents and caregivers who show a real interest in the great sport of baseball.   I want to thank you all in advance for what will prove to be one of our best seasons ever.

Sincerely,

John Ivanoff

President, Coronado Little League

Trivia Question Answers

TRIVIA QUESTION ANSWERS -
  • If two runners end up on second base, the first runner has the right to the base and the second runner must be tagged out.  20% of respondents got this one right!
  • A batter can be called out if he bunts down the first baseline, runs inside of it and is hit by the thrown ball from the catcher.  If he runs outside the baseline and is hit by the thrown ball, he's safe.  88% of respondents got this one right.
  • When the pitcher is walking back to the rubber, the ball is live and the baserunner can leave the base at his own risk.  Once the pitcher is on the rubber with the ball AND the catcher is in the batters box ready to receive the runner cannot leave the base.  75% of respondents got this one right.
  • The infield is playing in, a ball is hit past the 1st baseman and he doesn't touch it, and hits the runner.  The runner is out.  The correct answer is false, the runner is NOT out.  Rule 5.09(f) if a fair ball goes through or by any infielder other than the pitcher then touches a runner, the ball is in play and the runner shall NOT be declaired out.  Only 21% got this one right.
  • If the batter steps from one batters box to the other while the pitcher is in position to pitch then rule 6.06 (b) states that the batter is OUT!  50% of us got this one right.

It's Almost Time to Play Ball!
Mar 6, 2007, 6:05 pm
The kids have been dusting off the old gloves, swinging their bats in the backyard and dad's been trying his best to TRY and throw batting practice.  We're just about ready to go...

Opening day ceremonies will be on the 31st with LOTS of fun games for the kids including a Home Run Derby and a Radar Throw.  Games for AAA on through T-Ball will begin within a few days after that.

Managers have been selected and teams are being put together right now.  Everyone should be notified within the next few weeks (well before Opening Day).

Also, be sure and check back often as we will have game schedules, practice schedules and standings (for the upper levels) posted under the Baseball tab.
